A total of 27 venues will be in service for AYG Nanjing 2013. These venues, which include 19 competition venues (serving as training venues as well) and 8 training venues, will accommodate all competitions and training of the 16 sports.
All competitions of the 16 sports will take place in the “Three Major Venue Clusters", where most of the venues were used for the 10th National Games of the People's Republic of China, and various international and continental sporting events. Following the principle of shorter distance from the Athlete's Village and more convenience for the athletes, most of the venues are within a 30-minute drive from the Athletes’ Village, the OCA Hotel, and the Main Media Centre.
The "Three Major Venue Clusters" are as follows:
"Olympic Sports Centre Cluster": Composed of the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre and some other venues, this cluster offers 9 competition venues for 10 sports. This area is expected to highlight its sporting features as well as Olympic culture.
"Cultural and Scenic Cluster": Composed of Zhongshan Scenic Area and Youth Olympic Sports Park Rugby Field, this cluster contains 5 competition venues for 5 sports. This area is expected to showcase the features of urban culture and natural scenery and the promotion of harmony between human beings and nature.
"University City Venue Cluster": Composed of Jiangning Sports Centre and some other venues, this cluster includes 5 competition venues and 3 sports. Situated in the Jiangning University Town, this area is expected to provide opportunities for 200,000 students at 15 colleges and universities to enjoy the AYG.
