21 Mar 2012, Nanjing, China: The past, the present and the future will converge at the Athletes’ Village of the OCA’s 2nd Asian Youth Games in Nanjing, China, in August 2013. Led by the Director General, Husain Al-Musallam, an OCA delegation enjoyed a guided tour of the Jiangpu Campus of the Nanjing University of Technology on Wednesday morning.

The university, which has a proud history dating back 110 years and caters for 30,000 students, will offer a new residential zone to the 2nd Asian Youth Games, capable of accommodating 3,500 athletes, coaches and team officials from the 45 National Olympic Committees. It is 16km from the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre.

The construction of the new residential zone, with 900 apartments, will begin next month and be completed in April 2013. After the AYG, the apartments will accommodate the university teachers. A three-storey activity centre will be used for the Culture and Education Programme that runs alongside the AYG, along with other landmarks around the campus.

Mr Al-Musallam praised the concept of the AYV and in particular the faculty residential zone. “Everything is together for the athletes and officials, which is the concept of the Youth Games,” he said. “The university has a long history going back 110 years and has 30,000 students.

All the training facilities and medical centre are there for the athletes and coaches, and after the AYG the new building will provide a strong legacy for the teachers of the university. “All the work will be finished by April 2013, so this gives the organisers plenty of time to fine-tune the services, logistics and facilities.”
